Should a student be considered a “customer”?

A customer is someone who pays for good and services. A student in this sense can be considered as one. However, it is not absolutely right to consider a student as a typical custommer. First of all, not all students pay for their own education requirements or tuition. Though the student is receiving the service (education) someone else is spending for it, or rather investing in this respect. Secondly, the theories and practices of market gamemanship (I also took an economics class this semester), could hurt the quality and depth of eduation provided if the student is considered a customer in the strict economic sense of the word.

Previous experience with research papers

Before this class, I have not really had an experience with English research papers per say.
However, I have written papers and speeches in other courses. I think, that's the most I have done in this domain.
One paper I wrote was for my Women Studies Course. I was particularly interested in my topic because it had to do with women scientists and inventors. The one struggle that I had , which I am also facing with my present paper is that of being carried away during the research process. This was particularly true when I encountered a source or documentation that particularly interested me. I will just drift away and read on. As we all know, a research paper writing has to be done in a definite ammount of time and it is vital to properly manage, time wise, all the stages involved. I wish with all my heart I will achieve this some day. Long story short, I finally finished the paper and my professor liked it.

VARK Questionnaire Results

After taking the VARK questionnaire, my results show I am a kinesthetic study person.
What does that mean?
This is suggests a strong preference for learning by doing, using all the senses (sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing, etc).
I remember one of my Professors while commenting on study preferences of individuals in my class  did say I learn using all aspects and especially by doing or seeing how it is done.
This helps me to think more about adjusting my study habits to to be more coherent with my study preference in order to absorb and retain maximum information.
I think this is a very good exercise.

Blog # 10- Exercise 8.1: Recognizing Patch Writing

Blog #6 - Summary of "College: A Time Of Wonder " by Robert A. Bonfiglio

Bongfiglio, Robert A. “College: A Time of Wonder.” About Campus May-June 2006: 27-
29. 11 March. 2011. Print.

In this article Robert Bonfiglio strives to instill the notion of a right balance of how the campus atmosphere should be viewed. From his discourse, we understand that the wrong perspective based on two principal aspects, influences the way programs for first year students are structured. The first facet is that college was viewed as being for elites mainly. The second is about a magnified fear that is associated with college life especially as safety issues are concerned. Though Bongfiglio carefully stresses that he does not wish to under look the ever present tendency for danger that might be on college campuses, he particularly emphasis that it should not be the sole focus. He therefore suggests that campus and university should be viewed as a place of intellectual growth and the wonderful experiences that go with it, such as meeting other people and discovering one’s self. For him, these are so important and should not be tempered with no matter the ploy.

Finding a Research Topic, Starting is so difficult...

It is now taking me almost forever to decide on my research topic.
Though I have a long list of interests, I am held back from deciding on a research topic because in addition to a topic that interests me, I want to also research on something relevant and contemporary.
I first started wanting to opt more for technical themes, particularly the lives of those behind the technological bonanza we have today. I do not consider myself a history-inclined person but I just thought in my research I might take the opportunity to explore the lives of some important people of all times, their success, failures, inspirations and particularly the inspiration someone like me can draw from that. Who knows, this knowledge might help me be like them as far as technological and scientific discovery is concerned.
Then I changed my mind about that I am thinking of something more current like global warming.
This night I just made up my mind to handle the bull by the horns.
I am a little concerned about not being perfect and and about being boring even to myself.
However, I will definitely give it a try.
I also discovered that writing away to no one in particular was kind of wasting for me. However, when commenting on some one's else blog, I kind of get a feel to be communicating and ideas come to me more. I plan exploiting this avenue a little bit more.

Things that interest me

Wow! My interests, they are so many!
I can define some, while others it is not just possible to define because they are simply profound.
Each day, I discover how the world can be a wonderful place and the different things that just make me happy and worthy.
I am very happy and I like to express myself in different ways and with various activities I call interests. I believe strongly these things do not procure me joy but rather an avenue for me to express gratitude of a fulfilled life. These activities include:
  • Walking
  • Running
  • Reading
  • Helping others (especially with Mathematics or Physics, I love Math!)
  • Playing with little children
Awesome Professors get me all excited! I love school, I love College and I also love computers.
I want to be a great engineer some day and I will also like to accomplish many things in my life. I will like to discover, invent and be a great sage of my time.
Above all, I want to make a difference in peoples' lives and use every privilege extended to me to make some one's life better and be sensitive to people's needs.

What is Literacy

Literacy is a very deep and almost fathomless dimensional concept.
However, the word literacy brings home the ability to read and write.
With the widespread and prevalence of technology, literacy is also commonly used to express an individual's ease with using computers.
Personally, I believe literacy is relative to the domain concerned; as a person might be literate in a certain field and illiterate in another.
